The System Is In Your hands

Bulk handling systems have really caught on as more and more growers adopt this simple and easy-to-use way to manage crop protection products.

Bayer is committed to bulk handling systems. Our tote and shuttle fleet system is best in class and allows for packaging of numerous products with varying capacities, up to 130L for shuttles and 449L for totes. We want to ensure that you have access to this convenient, leading-edge system for years to come.

As a returnable, reusable, and refillable product, when you use our Bulk shuttles and totes you don’t have to handle and triple-rinse single herbicide jugs and you eliminate the environmental impact of disposing hundreds of jugs and their cardboard boxes. It’s one more way that Bayer shows our commitment to protecting the environment.

When the units are returned clean, undamaged and with seals intact, the process of an external wash, refill and shipment to the field is cost-effective for you and Bayer. If the units are not returned, come back damaged, have missing parts or have broken seals, the turnaround time and costs of maintaining these units goes up accordingly. Those added costs get reflected in the product pricing. More importantly for you, the grower, you risk losing your damage deposit, cutting into your bottom line.

By following the important steps above, you become an integral part of sustaining the delivery system, saving you time and money over the years.

How Not To Treat Your Bulk Delivery System. These Actions Can Void Your Deposit.

Once a shuttle has been filled at our plant, we prevent access to the contents (interior of unit) by the application of wire tamper-proof seals. When you take possession of the units, inspect for any damage and ensure all seals are intact. This is your guarantee that the contents have not been compromised.

While in your possession, you must not break these seals for any reason. If the units are returned with one or more broken seals, we must assume that the interior of the units could have been contaminated by the introduction of a foreign substance. Therefore, the units must undergo a rigorous cleaning process, a time-consuming and costly exercise.

Note: There is no reason to break a seal. The units are sufficiently vented and are overfilled by 500ml to ensure you get full value.

Damage

Major damage – punctures anywhere on container or crushing – will render container unusable and will result in the retailer and subsequently the grower to be charged the $100 deposit.

Returns

Please return empty container to your retailer of purchase. The retailer will arrange pick-up of empty containers with CWS Logistics.

Please do not call Bayer directly for returns.

Bulk QAs

Q: How do I move and transfer full Bulk totes once I get them to my farm?

A: The next best thing to a forklift is pallet forks mounted on a front-end loader. Use the slings provided – no chains please.

Q: How do I move and transfer full Bulk shuttles once I get them to my farm?

A: When shuttles are on the pallets, use a forklift. The next best thing to a forklift is pallet forks mounted on a front-end loader.

Individual shuttles can be rolled or lifted for convenience.

Q: I’ve never used a bulk shuttle/tote before. How do I get set up to handle them?

A: Bulk totes are bottom-fed, so you could simply attach a 1” female adapter to unload the product. New totes are self-draining. The more common way of unloading totes is by using a battery-operated pump. You still use the 1” female adapter and hose, but the pump pulls out the product and sends it to your sprayer or mixing cone. Most pumps have built-in digital volume measurement gauges.

Q: I need to buy a pump. Where do I look?

A: Ask your local agricultural retailer where you can purchase a pump in your area. Many retailers also sell these pumps.

Q: Do I have to pay a deposit to use the shuttle/tote?

A: Yes. In order to facilitate the shuttle and tote return process, for shuttles we require a $100 deposit and for totes we require a $500 deposit at the time of purchase. The deposit is completely refundable once the shuttle or tote is returned in good condition.

Q: I’ve finished using my Bulk shuttle and/or tote. Now what? Do I have to clean it and return it?

A: The new Bulk shuttle is overfilled by 500ml to ensure you get full value, so there is no need to break the seal or to rinse. A tote is self-draining so there is no need to rinse the empty tote before you return it to the retailer who sold it to you. Bayer will pick up the empty tote from your retailer.
