Bayer launches Varro FX delivering cross-spectrum control of the toughest weeds like wild oats

Unique new herbicide formulation is the first Group 2 emulsifiable concentrate on the market in Western Canada

Calgary, AB (June 9, 2023) – Today the Crop Science division of Bayer announced that Varro® FX cross-spectrum herbicide has been registered for use in Western Canada on spring and winter wheat. As the first Group 2 emulsifiable concentrate (EC) on the market in Western Canada, Varro FX provides advanced control of the toughest grass weeds, including Group 1-resistant wild oats and broadleaf weeds like cleavers, kochia, wild buckwheat and more. With a wide application window, and cross-spectrum targeting, Varro FX is an easy-to-use formulation offering flexibility.

“With the EC formulation of Varro FX, farmers will experience improved handling, mixing and an easier tank and boom cleanout while boosting agronomic performance,” says Ashley Smith, Marketing Manager, Crop Protection West at Bayer. “Flexible re-cropping, including in the brown soil zone, gives farmers the freedom to effectively tackle tough to control weeds with ease.”

Varro FX combines the trusted power of Group 2 thiencarbazone-methyl with the addition of Group 4 fluroxypyr to offer cross-spectrum control of tough grass weeds. It can be tank mixed with a wide range of cereal broadleaf herbicides such as Buctril® M, Thumper®, Infinity®, MCPA Ester and 2,4-D Ester herbicides for complete control of many grass and broadleaf weeds. Varro FX requires no external surfactant (NIS or AMS), and its unique Group 2 EC formulation means it is easier to mix and handle and provides enhanced coverage for more consistent grass weed control.

“To empower farmers to get back to doing the things they love, Bayer is consistently striving for solutions to boost ease of use while enhancing performance – Varro FX embodies this vision,” says Smith.

Varro FX will be available in 8.1 L jugs and 129.6 L drums for the 2024 growing season. Farmers are encouraged to talk to their local Bayer representative and retail to learn more, or visit cropscience.bayer.ca/products/herbicides/varro-fx
