Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology is a premix formulation of low volatility dicamba and glyphosate (Group 4 and 9). XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology is a low volatility dicamba (Group 4) formulation. These products will cause severe crop injury or destruction and yield loss if applied to soybeans that are not dicamba tolerant, including soybeans with a trait engineered to confer tolerance to auxin herbicides other than dicamba. These formulations have reduced volatility through VaporGrip® Technology. Approved labels, including supplemental labelling, for Bayer Canada agricultural herbicides must be in the possession of the user at the time of pesticide application. This document is a review and does not replace the label. Always read and follow label instructions.
Labelled Uses
Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology
Designed for use in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans and XtendFlex® soybeans. The Roundup Ready 2 Xtend Crop System combines the high yield potential of Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans with the option of two enhanced chemistries: Roundup Xtend® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology, an easy-to-use, premixed formulation. Apply when weeds are small (<10 cm) and actively growing.
Labeled for use in Roundup Ready® 2 Technology corn products
Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology can be applied preplant or pre-emergence to Roundup Ready® Corn 2 products and or post-emergence to the crop (spike to 5-leaf corn)
Treatment Notes:
- Do not apply to sweet corn, corn grown for seed production, or corn without Roundup Ready 2 Technology.
- When applying Roundup Xtend® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology adjacent to sensitive crops, apply as a pre-emergence treatment to reduce the risk of potential drift onto these sensitive crops.
- Do not apply to Roundup Ready® Corn 2 products over 50 cm in height. Measure the corn as it stands, not leaf-extended.
- Grazing Restrictions:
- DO NOT permit lactating dairy animals to graze fields within 7 days after application.
- DO NOT harvest forage or cut hay within 30 days after application.
- Withdraw meat animals from treated fields at least 3 days before slaughter
XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology
Designed for use in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans and XtendFlex® soybeans. XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology, a low-volatility dicamba-only formulation which can be tank mixed with a Roundup-branded product. For best results, Bayer Canada recommends to tank mix XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology with Roundup WeatherMAX® with Transorb II Technology Liquid Herbicide. When the tank mix is used it has the same application timings and weed control activity as Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology. When used alone, XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology is only effective on broadleaf weed species. The recently approved label requires the addition of a volatility reduction adjuvant (VRA) — such as VaporGrip® Xtra Agent or an approved VRA equivalent — in the tank mix for application. Pre-Harvest Interval(s): 7-10 days for soybean forage and 13-15 days for soybean hay.
XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology is also labelled for use in field corn (both Pre-Emergence and Post-mergence).
Application to Corn Pre-Emergence Treatment Notes
- Apply XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology tank-mixes as broadcast ground treatments after planting but before weeds and corn emerge.
- Apply to medium to fine textured soils containing more than 2.5% organic matter.
- Do not use on sandy or sandy loam soils.
- Avoid direct chemical contact with the corn seed. If you plan to apply XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology prior to corn emergence, be sure to place the corn seeds 4 cm or more below the soil surface. If seeds are planted less than 4 cm below the soil surface, delay application of XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology until the spike stage.
- Do not incorporate. If applications are made during planting, apply XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology far enough behind the planting equipment to avoid incorporation by the planter wheel or other covering device. If soil crusting makes it necessary to use a rotary hoe after a pre-emergence treatment, delay hoeing the soil more than 1.3 cm deep.
- Always consult the tank mix partner label for further limitations and restrictions (especially re: soil type).
Application to Corn Post-Emergence Treatment Notes
- XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology or XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology tank-mixes can be applied as “overlay” to corn previously treated with any other broadleaf or grass herbicide.
- Apply to corn after the spike growth stage up to 5-leaf corn on both Eastern and Western Canada.
- For best performance, spray when the broadleaf weeds are emerged and up to the 2-leaf stage of their development.
- The 1.26 L/ha rate of XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology as “overlay” is particularly effective in controlling velvetleaf and providing extended residual control of other late germinating, deep rooted annuals.
- Note: Unless otherwise specified, do not use additives such as oils, wetting agents, or sticking agents.
- There are different labels that cover Eastern Canada and Western Canada for both pre-emergence and post-emergence applications along with tank mix labels for both Eastern and Western (Prairie Providences only) in Canada. Always read and follow label directions.
Use Rates
Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybeans and Xtendflex® Soybeans
High Rate –3.77 L/ha (1.5 L/acre): The 3.77 L/ha rate is to be used only once in a season and should be applied preplant, pre-emergence or in-crop early post-emergence (up to the V2 growth stage).
Low Rate – 1.9 L/ha (.77 L/acre): Apply preplant or pre-emergence to the crop and/or post-emergence to the crop once or twice up to the early flower stage (R1). Early applications when the weeds are small reduce early season weed competition and provide maximum yield potential. A third application of Roundup Xtend® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology should only be made for the control of glyphosate resistant (GR) weed populations. Do not apply Roundup Xtend® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology to soybeans later than the R1 growth stage. 7.53 L/ha of Roundup Xtend® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology is the maximum total to be applied to Roundup Ready 2 Xtend and XtendFlex® soybeans in a single growing season (year).
Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology in corn hybrids with Roundup Ready 2® Technology
High Rate –3.77 L/ha (1.5 L/acre): The 3.77 L/ha rate is to be used only once in a season and should be applied pre-plant, preemergence or early post-emergence (spike to 5-leaf corn). For sequential applications, ensure the crop has not advanced beyond the recommended growth stage. The sequential application should be applied at least two weeks after the first application. Do not exceed the maximum season total of 7.53 L/ha.
Low Rate – 1.9 L/ha (.77 L/acre): at 1.9 L/ha will provide residual suppression of some annual broadleaf weeds. However, this rate is most effective when applied post-emergence to the weeds. Early applications when the weeds are small help reduce early season weed competition and provide maximum yield potential. Post-emergence treatment (spike to 5-leaf corn) can be applied to corn previously treated with other residual broadleaf or grass herbicides and will provide extended residual control of other late germinating, deep rooted annuals.
XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybeans and Xtendflex® Soybeans
High Rate – 1.26 L/ha (0.5 L/acre) + Roundup WeatherMAX® at 3.33 L/ha: This rate is to be used only once in a season and should be used preplant, preemergence or in-crop early post-emergence
Low Rate – 0.608 L/ha (0.246 L/acre) + Roundup WeatherMAX® at 1.67 L/ha: This rate is most effective when applied post-emergence to weeds and only provides suppression of later flushes. It can be applied once or twice up to early flower stage of crop growth (R1) in a season on its own or as a follow-up to a high rate treatment applied earlier.
2.48 L/ha of XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology is the maximum total to be applied to Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybeans and XtendFlex® Soybeans in a single growing season (year).
A third application of XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology should only be made for the control of glyphosate resistant (GR) weed populations
Pre-emergence results may vary on certain small-seeded broadleaf weeds, depending on rainfall and soil types.
XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology is also labelled for use in field corn (both Pre-Emergence and Post-mergence).
Rates applied alone range from 0.608 L/ha to 1.26 L/ha.
Other Crops Labeled for XtendiMax® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology. It is also labelled for use in seed production in red fescue, canary seed, and several forage seedling grasses, for perennial broadleaf weed control in postharvest stubble, pastures, rangeland grasses, summer fallow, and other crop-free land, for problem weed control in lowbush blueberries (late fall applications), and for brush control in non-crop areas and several cereal crops, or for reduced tillage fallow (summer fallow). See full label for more details on weeds controlled and application timing in the various crop and non-crop situations. For details on use rates and timings for other crop and non-crop uses refer to the full label for details.
Tank Mixes: When a tank mixture is used, consult the labels of the tank-mix partners and observe the largest (most restrictive) buffer zone of the products involved in the tank mixture.

Weed Management Stewardship
Dicamba can be used with traditional residual herbicides and with non-residual herbicides that have different, effective sites of action, along with other diversified weed management practices including the use of glyphosate. When targeting GR weeds, Bayer recommend adding another herbicide effective mode of action on top of using dicamba to give growers two effective mode of action herbicides against these weeds.
Re-cropping Restrictions: A plant back interval of 120 days is required for those crops not on the Roundup Xtend® 2 herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology label. Do not count days when the ground is frozen. Moisture is essential for the degradation of this herbicide in soil. If dry weather persists after application, crop injury may occur the following spring.
Key Label Application Requirements
- DO NOT apply during periods of dead calm.
- Avoid application of this product when winds are gusty.
- Optimum wind speed, measured at boom height, is between 5 and 15 km/h and blowing away from sensitive areas or crops (see Table 1).
Table 1 Wind speed chart, approved conditions for application
Wind Speed |
Application Condition and Restrictions |
< 5 km/hr |
DO NOT apply if temperature inversion exists |
5 - 15 km/hr |
Optimum application conditions |
> 15 km/hr |
DO NOT apply |
- DO NOT spray during a TEMPERATURE INVERSION (cold air at ground level is trapped by warm air above and fine droplets can form a more concentrated cloud which can then move via light winds. These conditions typically occur in the evening around dusk and often remain until sunrise in the morning. As the ground warms and winds pick up the inversion is dispersed, and the droplets disperse normally).
- Signs that a temperature inversion is occurring include almost no wind or dead calm, dew or frost, mist or ground fog, and smoke moving mostly horizontally at a relatively low height.
- Avoid application when the temperature is expected to exceed 30°C (86°F).
- Make sure application ground speed is less than 25 km/hr (15.5m/hr).
- Use a minimum carrier volume of 100 L/ha (10 GPA) of spray solution for optimal performance. It is recommended to increase the application volume to 150 L/ha (15 GPA) when targeting large weeds or using a drift reduction additive (DRA).
- Use spray nozzles that apply spray droplets classified by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) as Extremely coarse or Ultra coarse spray quality only.
- Boom height must be 60 cm or less above the crop or ground
- Spray early when weeds are less than 10 cm.
- Use only approved tank-mix partners. Ammonium sulfate (AMS) and ammonium-based additives are restricted in applications.
- Do not add water conditioners or buffering agents that acidify the spray solution.
- Ensure that the entire sprayer system is properly cleaned before and after applying these products (use triple rinse tank clean out procedure) to avoid potential contamination.

Tank Cleanout Procedure
- After spraying, drain the sprayer (including boom and lines) immediately. Do not allow the spray solution to remain in the spray boom lines overnight prior to flushing.
- Flush tank, hoses, boom and nozzles with clean water.
- Inspect and clean all strainers, screens and filters.
- Prepare a cleaning solution with a commercial detergent or sprayer cleaner or ammonia according to the manufacturer’s directions.
- Take care to wash all parts of the tank, including the inside top surface. Start agitation in the sprayer and thoroughly re-circulate the cleaning solution for at least 15 minutes. All visible deposits must be removed from the spraying system.
- Flush hoses, spray lines and nozzles for at least 1 minute with the cleaning solution.
- Repeat above steps for two additional times to accomplish an effective triple rinse.
- Remove nozzles, screens and strainers and clean separately in the cleaning solution after completing the above procedures.
- Appropriately dispose of rinsate from steps 1-7 in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Drain sump, filter and lines.
- Rinse the complete spraying system with clean water.
- All rinse water must be disposed of in compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal guidelines.
