Bayer announces 2021 availability for XtendFlex® soybeans, offering Canadian growers strong yields and increased flexibility in weed control

Calgary, AB (January 26, 2021) – Further to the recent U.S announcement about final regulatory approval for XtendFlex® soybeans, the Crop Science Division of Bayer has announced that XtendFlex soybeans will be available in Canada for 2021. The latest addition to the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System, the XtendFlex soybean trait technology offers industry-leading tolerance to glyphosate, dicamba, and glufosinate. With tolerance to three herbicides, XtendFlex soybeans allow growers flexibility in herbicide choice while also providing the high-yielding performance they need.

“XtendFlex soybeans are designed to help Canadian growers meet the rising challenge of hard-to-control weeds, while still offering the outstanding yield potential growers expect from the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System,” says Andrew Chisholm, Trait & Trait Launch Manager, Bayer. “With XtendFlex soybeans, growers can choose the herbicide or herbicide combination that best suits their fields, their preferences, and their weed concerns.”

The industry’s first soybean trait to offer tolerance to glyphosate, dicamba, and glufosinate, XtendFlex soybeans allow growers to focus both on early weed control to maximize yield potential as well as the ability to clean up flushing weeds. With greater flexibility in both the pre-emergence and post-emergence stages, growers can adopt different modes of action to manage difficult-to-control weeds such as waterhemp and Canada fleabane.

“The triple-stacked tolerance of the trait ensures that each grower can use the modes of action they need to effectively address their specific weed control issues,” says Chisholm. “This triple herbicide tolerance allows you to follow proper herbicide resistance management strategies, including the use of multiple effective modes of action throughout the season.”

A small volume of soybeans will be available for the 2021 growing season. Growers are encouraged to talk to their Bayer representative to learn more, or visit Traits.bayer.ca
